Music Therapy is the use of music as a therapeutic vehicle for the restoration, maintenance, and improvement of psychological, cognitive, and physiological health. Music is a universal phenomenon that when therapeutically applied can create a bridge between cultures, age groups, and clients with varying mental and physical conditions. Clients’ thoughts, feeling and memories are evoked in the context of a client-therapist relationship, with music used to facilitate the process. Various approaches are used in the therapy sessions, depending on the clients’ individual needs and capacities: listening, playing creating and discussing music. Music Therapy is a growing field that is applicable to those who want to combine a love of music with a desire to help others.
